Make sure the line "simp.host: localhost" is included in whatever simp.properties file you're using.

To start the tunnel:

double-click on tunnel.bat

If asked if you're sure you want to connect to the host, type "y" and return.

Type in the password at the prompt.

You should receive a message "connected to trim tunnel."

Now start up trimclient.jar, and type in your username *by itself* in the login box.  For example, the complete contents of the login box for me is "nop" (not "nop@external-simp").  The machine identity has to come from that "simp.host" line in the simp.properties file.
